An area named after the Bugis seafarers whose trading activities connected Singapore with the archipelago, and later home to the Hainanese and Japanese communities, Bugis also gained notoriety for its vibrant night life.
Today, the area is not only characterised by an eclectic mix of the old and the new, including bustling mixed use emporia offering entertainment, shopping, eating opportunities, a wide range of hotel and office spaces, but also some of Singapore's most interesting (post-)modern buildings: Ken Yeang's eco-friendly National Library, WOHA's luminescent Bugis+, Ole Scheeren's DUO, the dense art deco style Parkview Square, and I.M. Pei's trapezoidal The Gateway.
We will explore some of the most interesting passageways and plazas, innovative features such as climatized 'indoor streets', the imaginative shape of many buildings, many of which come in two blocks, and how the past is kept alive through memory markers and replicas.
Off the Beaten Track
We pride ourselves in offering out of the ordinary tours (some walking, some by bus, some a mix!) and other events with an emphasis on the heritage, history, and culture of our "little red dot" of an island. We have a wonderfully professional, committed team who work hard to ensure that the interesting parts of our small but magical island are introduced to residents and visitors alike.
